Make sure you know exactly what mortgage insurance can and can’t offer. Plans often go under several different names, the most common being Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance, MPPI, or Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Insurance, ASU. In return for your monthly premium your insurer will pay out a pre-agreed amount each month if you make a successful claim. These payments will normally last for either 12 months or two years, depending on your provider. The idea is to give you some financial breathing space while you try and find a new job or recover from an injury or illness.
